1999 Theatre Awards - Wrapup

So... The season's over and the awards have all been handed out. The pools have been paid out (who wins these things but the most cynical of us?). Though the arguments will go on until next season, for now it's all over but the engraving.

I'll have to leave the speculation as to the meaning of all of this to better qualified parties. In the end we find, I believe, that the awards are no more than a celebration of the current state of the theatre. And what's so wrong with that?

Totals? You want totals!?

I gatcha totals right heah. Turned out by our terrific team of trembling touch typists, here's an amazingly colorful chart. Who knows what it could mean, but here are the total numbers of awards given to each show nominated in all of the six larger award ceremonies. Note that I've said "given to each show" -- we're rather pointlessly throwing award that were given to individuals in with the awards given to the shows. (Hey! That's just like they do it in the ads!)

We make no guarantees about the accuracy of the thing; we just tried real hard to get it right. Please note that (for our sanity's sake) this chart only includes awards appearing in charts 1 (Performance) and 2 (Large Categories, Direction, and Design), but not chart 3 (What Doesn't Fit). For each entry the first number represents awards won, while the second number represents the total nominations for that show. (If there's no entry in a column, then the show received no nominations for that group's awards. Doh!)

Because of its massiveness, the Great Big Giant Huge Large Chart of Winners and Losers needed a page of its own. Therefore:

Take me to that Big Ol' Chart!
