Mr. Cranky @ Large

This week we'll manipulate the data from the Great-Big Summary Chart to achieve some pointless results.

The Big Losers

None of the shows in this chart went 1 for 1, winning an award for every nomination. So to level the field we can subtract the number of wins from the total nominations in order to reflect only the awards lost. This reveals the big losers. Here they are in order of losses.

Ranking Show No. of losses
59. Parade 21 (Big Loser!)
58. Civil War 18
57. Not About Nightingales 15
56. Fosse 14
55. Little Me 13
54. Iceman Cometh 12
53. Twelfth Night 11
52. Electra, Footloose 10
49. (3-way tie) A New Brain, Death of a Salesman, You're a Good Man, Charlie Brown 9
48. It Ain't Nothin' but the Blues 8
45. (3-way tie) Amy's View, Annie Get Your Gun, Closer 7
42. (3-way tie) Lion in Winter, Night Must Fall, Swan Lake 6
38. (4-way tie) Lonesome West, Mineola Twins, Mystery of Irma Vep, Ring Round the Moon 5
35. (3-way tie) Betty's Summer Vacation, Peter Pan, Side Man 4
31. (4-way) Beauty Queen of Leenane, Captains Courageous, Marlene, Stop/Kiss 3
19. (12-way) Blue Room, Bob, Bosoms and Neglect, Forbidden Broadway Cleans Up Its Act!, Judas Kiss, Killer Joe, On the Town, Ride Down Mt. Morgan, Snakebit, Weir, Wit, Woody Guthrie's American Song 2
 1. (18-way) Ashes to Ashes, Bright Lights Big City, Brittanicus/ Phedre, Cider House Rules Part I, Dream True, Everybody's Ruby, Exactly Like You, Far East, Gershwins' Fascinating Rhythm, House/Lights, I'm Still Here...Damn It!, Majority of One, Most Fabulous Story Ever Told, Rollin' on the T.O.B.A, That Championship Season, This Is Our Youth, Uneasy Chair, Blue Room 1 (Big Winners!)

Note that if we take this completely at face value, the smallest number of losses, wins! (Of course, try to get tickets for any of these "big winners.")

Berry Berry Good

Of course, that makes little sense, does it? Much more sensical, although equally pointless, is to look at the win-to-loss percentage ratio. If we divide the number of awards won by the total nominations for each winner, we come up with something like baseball batting averages. So here then, is the list of winners. (Shows with no hits have been dropped from the chart.)

Bear in mind that, despite their relatively respectable performance at the plate, many of these players have been sent to farm teams and/or dropped to the minors.

Our congratulations are extended to all the players. Win or lose, remember it's only a game!
