Christiane Noll was introduced to the entertainment world as a musical theatre actress. She starred on Broadway and/or 1st National Tour productions of It Aint Nothin But The Blues, Jekyll and Hyde, Grease, Miss Saigon, City of Angels and an Australian/Thai production of South Pacific. She has also been featured on numerous Broadway compilation and original cast recordings. Ms. Noll performed as the singing voice of Anna in the animated film The King and I and has also hit the concert circuit as guest soloist for The Utah, Dallas (with Marvin Hamlisch) and Cape Symphony Orchestras.
Christiane met the incredibly talented and versatile David Budway while attending Carnegie Mellon University in Pittsburgh. Their creative collaboration and playfulness are what makes this project so special. By exploring old jazz standards (most of which were written for the theatre or the movie musical) as well as new songs, in the spirit of Dinah Washington, Annie Ross, Cleo Laine, Diane Schuur, Diana Krall and of course the great Ella Fitzgerald, these two generously share their common passion for jazz and musical expression. With a great deal of joy and little expectation, Christiane and David venture forth together, to play, to move, to swing, to jam, to groove, to feel, to surprise and to excite everyone who is touched by this live concert.
From her formative years in Leonia, New Jersey, the child of accomplished musicians went on to study at Carnegie Mellon. From there she launched into a career of national concerts and Broadway national tours. She starred as Sandy in Tommy Tunes Grease opposite Adrien Zmed, she also starred as Ellen in Miss Saigon, and Mallory in City of Angels and as Lisa Carew in Jekyll and Hyde.
In 1996, Christiane made her Broadway debut as leading lady Emma Carew, opposite Robert Cuccioli and Linda Eder in Frank Wildhorns long-running Jekyll and Hyde. Two years and hundreds of packed-houses later, Jekyll and Hyde brought Christiane to the attention of many Broadway audience members.
Since her January 1999 departure from Jekyll and Hyde, Ms. Noll, as the Broadway ingenue on the move, (Robert Daniels, Variety) has been just that. Ms. Noll has been doing various concerts, commercials and appearances all over the country.
Playbill Online says of Christianes casting in It Aint Nothin but the Blues: From the quasi-operatic pop of Jekyll to the twee chamber music of Little by Little to the blues of Blues, Noll can be counted among the most versatile actresses currently working the American musical scene. (10/1/99) |
