DC Theatre League Releases Results of First Major Audience Survey
A major breakthrough in analysis. Washington DC's audiences are rich, white, mostly women, well educated and are DC residents. The cherry on the cake is that they say they would attend theatre more if the ticket prices were less expensive. These are all things that no one ever knew. Good work.

Paper Mill Playhouse and Tony-Winner Ziemba Still In Discussions Over Victor/Victoria
At least they could always look to bring Betty Buckley back to Paper Mill if Ziemba does not work out. I hear that Betty was so easy to work with during Gypsy.

David Merrick Tribute Planned for July 18 at Bway's St. James
The biggest tribute to Merrick would be a full page splashy ad in the Times with highlights of his career in red! This tribute at the St. James should bring out some great stories.

Roundabout Workshops The Boys from Syracuse and Assassins
Yes, we knew about the workshops already, but it seems as though there is a backpedal on Assassins for this season. This is in contrast to a July 1 story on Broadway.com.

All-male Pageant Transfers to Vaudeville
All the pieces are falling into place for music writer Albert Evans. Pageant is moving to the West End after a fringe run. I mentioned Albert a few months ago after I saw a workshop of his musical A COUNTRY CHRISTMAS CAROL, which is a new musical based upon the Dickens novel, set in the south. It was really good. Perhaps Evans who has been working in and around Broadway for awhile may emerge as a composer of the new Broadway. Lets hope so.

Laramie Project Has New Summer Schedule Starting July 10
There is no excuse to miss this new work. It is thought provoking and will make a dramatic impact on whomever sees it. "Enter the Guardsman" will go on ship.

The most important piece of information here was the name of the director... so that all of us could never work with this person! It's like those rumors of Francis Ford Coppola during Apocalypse Now using live ammo.

George M. Cohan... I am not even worthy of typing his name. Mr. Cohan was an amazing individual with contributions to Broadway and to the theatre in general that are still benefiting us today. Here is his obit from 1942 in The New York Times.

Wholly Trinity by Peter Filichia

It's the Birthday Boy by Ken Mandelbaum

Bill Jennings over at Mermaniac.com is wondering what is happening to all the disappearing content at the "theatrical record label" websites. It must be those tech-heads over at Silicon Alley on 44th and 8th.

While we are mentioning "theatrical record label" websites, former theatrical label, Varese Sarabande, had a full page ad in this Summer's issue of SHOW MUSIC. There were six CDs featured. None of them were remotely theatrically related. Someone must remind them that this magazine is not SOUNDTRACK magazine. Although I suppose that they had an advertising contract that they couldn't get out of since their recent announcement of leaving the SHOW MUSIC market.

Conspicuously missing from advertisements: Sh-K-Boom Records who just released Adam Pascal and Sherrie Rene Scott's new CDs. I understand that this new label is trying to separate themselves from the theatrical market, but this market is their base right now. National appearances on TV and press are not based upon Adam and Sherrie's pop recordings, they are getting this coverage because of what they have done on Broadway. And that may be a fatal marketing flaw.

Theatre.com Expands to New Offices

"Our new home is the fourth floor of 268 West 44th Street at the corner of New York's "Silicon Alley," Eighth Avenue, next to the St. James Theatre and overlooking the marquee of Phantom of the Opera at the Majestic Theatre."

I usually called that the Theatre District, not Silicon Alley. I wonder what all the hot dot com startups that are on 23rd/5th call home. The dot coms used to, as of last Friday, call their neighborhood Silicon Alley...
