We have two very important birthdays to recognize today. First, it is the birthday of BroadwayStars.Com's very own Catherine Skidmore today!

And, of course, Richard Rodgers was born 100 years ago today. Though he passed away in 1979, his music and innumerable contributions to theatre will continue to live on for countless decades--and most likely centuries--to come!

Careful readers pointed out that Cincinnati and Parris were spelled incorrectly. Yes and No. Parris will always be spelled Parris.

Now for the better stuff, emails are flying back and forth about this morning's Blind Item. One interesting one:
As for your blind item - yes the Weislers are interested in bringing the Kennedy Center production of "Company" to Broadway. They sent Jay Binder down to look at it. Here's another blind item: Sean Mathias was fired from his directing duties on "Company" and the production people are saying at the Kennedy Center production was doctored/directed by James Lapine.
Hmmmm...

It is too hot to think... but I got a few blind items that I thought I would run by you to cool down a few readers...
That Producing "team" that some call tacky is interested in ANOTHER revival. But this show, in rotation, nearly became commercial before but for reviews and vocal trouble. But can they keep the current company intact?
Huh? And then there is this one:
You linked to a Broadway.Com article about Shoppers Carried by Escalators into the Flames. Unfortunately, the article lists David Levine as the Director. Word has it he was fired after the second preview. Which may explain the delay in the opening.
Finally, a reader send in a tidbit of one of our favorites:
Michael Cerveris is planning to do a concert at Kennedy Center's Millenium Stage, tentatively scheduled for August 18.
And a question from a reader:
Yesterday we saw THOROUGHLY MODERN MILLIE, which, of course, was absolutely wonderful. My question is who played Millie at the 2 pm performance on June 26? Was it Catherine Brunell or was it Sutton Foster? Thank you.
I don't really know, but if anyone out there does, please let us know. (Freaky?)

There are so many things going on with the Richard Rodgers 100, it is hard to know where to spend your time. Unfortunately, most of them are in NYC and the good folks who are not here cannot really get to them. Well, here is one that may be just for you if you are 40 miles East of Cincinnati...
America's first nationwide, commercial-free, 24-hour show tune channel -- XM Radio's "On Broadway", (XM-28) is having a Richard Rodgers celebration Friday night from 6-10p ET, "On Stage at the Eckington" Show celebrates the 100th Birthday of Richard Rodgers. Bill Schmalfeldt will play songs from practically all of the shows Rodgers wrote music for. You'll also hear interviews with Ted Chapin, head of the Rodgers and Hammerstein Organization; Meryle Secrest who wrote the Rodgers biography "Somewhere For Me." Also, comments by Richard Rodgers himself, from previously recorded interviews. For information on how to subscribe to XM Satellite Radio, go to their website -- www.xmradio.com.
But for those of you that are here in NYC, don't forget that today is A RICHARD RODGERS MASTER CLASS with Barbara Cook, produced by the Performing Arts Library at Lincoln Center. On Friday is the free concert at The Gershwin (at noon) and Saturday is LETTERS TO DOROTHY and OTHER LETTERS OF RICHARD RODGERS with Walter Willison at 3pm at The Theatre at the Performing Arts Library at Lincoln Center. (The Theatre is a beautiful brand new state of the art theatre on the lower level.)

I want to also wish the best to a reading this weekend of Abbey Victoria, a New Musical. I hear the cast is hot... Makes you want to fly to Parris. Book and Lyrics by Donald Loftus, Music by Andrew Sussman. Gary Slavin directs and choreographs, and Barbara Anselmi is musical director.

[ NYP ]  PLANNERS ON WRONG PATH: ACTIVISTS
The construction of a new PATH station will adversly affect (thanks Matthew!) The Lucille Lortel Theatre.

After running this item, I received an email that gave an interesting POV. I asked the writer if I could run it here and he agreed.
As a former employee of the Lortel (assistant treasurer 1998-1999), I see no loss if the theatre closes its doors. It is revolting to me how in the wake of Lucille Lortel's death the board of her foundation has allowed one of our most desirable theatres to sit empty for insanely long stretches at a time. The party line is that they are looking for limited runs of not-for-profit shows, yet when Willow Cabin Theatre Company desired to present Nobel prize winner Derek Walcott's THE ODYSSEY in a 6-week nonprofit run, the board refused to consider it.

Why have a proud old theatre sitting empty if the space can serve a greater good, like a subway exit?
    - A. Scott Falk
Mr. Falk may have a point.
