[ B ]  Ave Q's Off-B'way Run Cut Short by Star's Injury

[ NYP ]  SICK 'ROSE' LOSING BLOOM IN 'GYPSY' by MICHAEL RIEDEL

She's back - but for how long? Flame-haired songstress Bernadette Peters returned to the Broadway stage last night in "Gypsy" - her first appearance after spending six days battling a respiratory infection.
This is the article referred to in the Theatermania article below.

[ ND ]  Words Fail in This Rodgers Musical by Gordon Cox
As the title implies, the orchestra has no strings (save for a harp and a bass), requiring Rodgers to make strong use of emotive wind instruments (especially the flute and the clarinet) to conjure some sweep. But "No Strings" also has no substance, and so not even its likable score can pull us along into its story.

If you go to the world-premiere run of Green Violin at the Prince Music Theater - and you should, if you have any interest in the way theater reinvents itself in different eras, or if you admire the work of the late artist Marc Chagall - you'll be seeing what seems like two very different plays.

Unlike a number of musicals that have hit New York stages in recent years, The Look of Love doesn't try to use the pre-existing songs of which it's composed to tell a story. All it tries to do is entertain. And at that it fails pretty miserably.

I saw the workshop of 'Brooklyn' back in September (2002) at Signature Theatre on 42nd. Some really amazing talent on and off-stage. I hope they can find an audience and make it to Broadway because this was a real treat. Despite the obvious comparisons to 'Rent', I think this show has a different audience. I hope the producers don't miss that fact. And... I know the perfect Guitarman who could be the understudy for the Kevin Anderson role...
